Eco Coffee

We are proud to say we now serve Eco Coffee in our Camellias coffee shop/restaurant.

Locally roasted in Dorset, Eco Coffee is a selection of coffee beans and ground coffee, which once used the spent coffee grounds are then recycled.

The spent coffee grounds are dried and made into ‘Eco Coffee Logs’, which can be used in wood burning stoves or domestic fire places. Or, they can be re-cycled and used as fuel pellets to roast the next batch of Eco Coffee, so completing the loop.

Why is this important?

With over 500,000 tons of waste coffee grounds being disposed of in landfill in the UK each year, our ever growing coffee consumption is significantly contributing towards global warming.

Coffee grounds accelerate the decomposition of other food wastes that are sent to landfill. As they decompose, they produce methane, which is a greenhouse gas with more than 20 times the global warming capacity of carbon dioxide!

How it Works…

Stage 1

 Eco Coffee

The process starts with you, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in Camellias Restaurant – we then collect the used coffee grounds in special (re-purposed) containers issued to us by our supplier. These containers are then collected at the same time as our next delivery of fresh coffee

Stage 2

The next stage of the process once the grounds have been collected, is to sieve out any foreign objects and dry the coffee grounds. From there the dried coffee grounds are fed into a large mechanical press that forces the coffee under huge pressure through a die and this forms the Bio-Fuel required for the Eco Roasters

Stage 3

Eco Roast

The third stage of the process is roasting. Custom made Eco Roasters are used to turn the Coffee Bio-Fuel into the heat energy needed to roast delicious fresh coffee beans. The Eco Roaster is so energy efficient that it only uses approx 40g of Bio-Fuel to roast 1000g of fresh coffee! It even stores excess heat in large thermal storage tanks for heating the roastery!

Stage 4

The final stage of the process is the beans that have just been roasted, these are then quickly cooled, de-stoned and packed in valved bags to lock in the freshness. Boxed ready for delivery to us. As we have adopted the Coffee-Eco System, these beans will be delivered at the same time as our coffee waste is collected. Ensuring a carbon neutral journey is achieved.

And repeat

Eco Coffee

Then the process starts all over again with a delicious cup of Eco Coffee, yum!

Zero Waste

ECO ROAST is a Zero Waste process itself, but also actively reduces the amount of waste to landfill, making the whole process WASTE NEGATIVE!

Zero Carbon

ECO ROAST has now linked with the Green Earth Appeal, to offset all carbon produced through the whole process. Eco Coffee do this by planting fruit trees in 3rd World regions

Sustainable

ECO ROAST is one of the most sustainable methods of roasting fresh coffee in the world. Capturing the energy from Waste Coffee Grounds.
